In a plot twist straight out of a Bollywood movie, a businessman in Ahmedabad got duped for a whopping ₹1.3 crore in fake currency – but that’s not even the weirdest part! The fake notes featured none other than Bollywood legend Anupam Kher’s face instead of Mahatma Gandhi. Yeah, you read that right! 😱🎬
Here’s the Scoop:
Mehul Thakkar, a gold and silver trader who’d been doing business with Laxmi Jewellers for over 15 years, got a call from a familiar manager on September 23 about a third party interested in buying over 2 kg of gold. Feeling confident with the deal, Mehul agreed to sell it for ₹1.6 crore.
The “Star Bank of India” Scam 🎭
The next day, the buyer was in a rush and claimed some tech issues with RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement). No biggie, right? They promised to hand over ₹1.3 crore in cash as a security deposit and would settle the rest later. Seems legit… until it wasn’t.
Mehul’s employee went to drop off the gold at an Angadia (courier firm), and there were three shady individuals waiting. After handing over the gold, he took a good look at the cash – and guess who was smiling back at him? Anupam Kher! Instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic image, the notes had Kher’s face on them, and the bank name? “Star Bank of India.” 💀
Cue the Chaos 😵💫
Once they realized the scam, Mehul and the Laxmi Jewellers manager bolted to the scene, only to find the Angadia firm had been set up just two days prior. And as expected, the guy who made the deal was now unreachable. Talk about an instant ghosting!
Thakkar filed a complaint, and now the police are on the hunt for the scammers, reviewing CCTV footage like they’re in a detective thriller. 🕵️♂️
Anupam Kher Reacts 🎥
Even Anupam Kher couldn’t resist chiming in. He tweeted, “My photo instead of Gandhiji’s photo on Rs 500 notes???? Anything can happen!” 🤣
Looks like this real-life heist is stranger than fiction! We’ll be waiting for the next twist in this bizarre saga.
