๐Ÿ–ค Former DU Professor G N Saibaba Passes Away at 57, Months After Acquittal

Hyderabad, Oct 13, 2024 โ€“ G N Saibaba, the former Delhi University professor whose life became a symbol of resilience, passed away at 57, just months after his acquittal. Saibaba, wheelchair-bound and battling severe health issues, died on Saturday evening due to post-op complications from gallbladder surgery. ๐Ÿฅ

Admitted to Hyderabadโ€™s Nizamโ€™s Institute of Medical Sciences about 10 days ago, his condition worsened quickly. According to close sources, he suffered a heart attack at 8 pm and was pronounced dead by 8:30 pm. His passing has left his supporters and family in deep sorrow. ๐Ÿ’”

Earlier this year, Saibabaโ€™s name made headlines when the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court acquitted him on March 5, 2024, after nearly 10 years behind bars for alleged Maoist links. Released from Nagpur Central Jail just days later, Saibaba reflected on his ordeal, saying, โ€œI lost much more than the 10 years I spent in jail.โ€

Imprisoned since 2014, Saibaba endured solitary confinement in the notorious Anda Cell, while his family and supporters relentlessly fought for his release, spotlighting his fragile health throughout his imprisonment. โš–๏ธ

An esteemed English professor, Saibaba was more than just an academicโ€”he was a fierce advocate for human rights. Even from behind bars, he never stopped fighting for justice. After his acquittal, Saibaba was focused on regaining his teaching position at Delhi University, though his health was a constant battle. Paralyzed from the waist down due to polio as a child, his time in prison only worsened his condition. ๐Ÿ˜”

“Despite everything, he always talked about getting back to teaching,” shared Nandita Narain, a former DU professor and family friend. “Itโ€™s heartbreaking that he didnโ€™t get the chance to see that through.”

Saibabaโ€™s death closes a chapter in Indiaโ€™s legal history, one defined by struggle, resilience, and a fight for justice. From the halls of Delhi University to the prison cells he inhabited, Saibabaโ€™s journey was one of unwavering courage.

Now, friends, family, and colleagues are reflecting on his legacy, vowing to continue his work and keep his spirit alive. Rest in power, Professor Saibaba. โœŠ
