In a unique cross-border love story, Mohammad Abbas Haider, the son of BJP corporator Tahseen Shahid from Uttar Pradesh, tied the knot with Andleep Zahra, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan, through an online “nikah” on Friday night. Due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, Haider was unable to secure a visa to visit Pakistan for the wedding.

The virtual wedding ceremony took place at an imambara in Uttar Pradesh, where Haider’s family gathered, while the bride’s family participated from Lahore. The decision for an online wedding was further influenced by the bride’s mother, Rana Yasmin Zaidi, being hospitalized in critical condition.

Shia cleric Maulana Mahfoozul Hasan Khan officiated the ceremony, emphasizing that Islamic law permits such online “nikah” as long as the woman’s consent is obtained, and religious leaders represent both sides. The event was attended by several notable guests, including BJP MLC Brijesh Singh Prishu, who congratulated the family on the special occasion.
