🚨 Cyclone Dana Alert in Odisha! πŸŒͺ️

Cyclone Dana has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra areas of Odisha on the night of October 24. The cyclone will hit with wind speeds of 100-120 kmph, potentially causing severe damage in coastal areas.


  • Affected districts: Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore (Odisha) and East Medinipur (West Bengal).
  • Heavy rainfall: Coastal and northern parts of Odisha will see heavy to very heavy rainfall.
  • Storm surge: Low-lying areas in Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Balasore may face flooding due to a storm surge.
  • Possible damage: Thatched houses, huts, rooftops, power, and communication lines are vulnerable, and trees may be uprooted.


  • High alert: Government machinery is fully mobilized.
  • Evacuations: Around 10 lakh people will be moved to 5,000 shelters by the evening of October 23.
  • Disaster response teams: 20 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), fire service personnel, and NDRF teams are on the ground, with 5 more NDRF teams airdropped from Punjab.
